The pool deck might be empty, but we've got the biggest ship in the world is here!!! Symphony of the Seas is docked right next to us in Crown Bay. For those who have never been to St Thomas, there are 2 cruise ports - the original dock (WICO, West Indian Company Dock) which is over across from the main downtown area, and Crown Bay, which was developed after the megaships were coming because it has a much deeper harbor, being that it was a former subarmine base!!! Here's Symphony, she carries between 5500 and 6500 passengers plus 2000+ crew! Our ship, Celebrity Silhouette is about 2800 passengers, and crew is 1275, so you can just imagine the amount of people in St Thomas today, since there were also 3 ships at the WICO dock!!!This is why I don't do cruise excursions anymore...here is the Kon Tiki - which you can book through the ship - a party barge for a day hanging out on the water- I'm sure it's abour $75 a person (yes, I'll go look it up) and LOOK AT THE LINE OF PEOPLE GETTING ON!!! You and 200 of your closest friends....so much not my scene.
Here's a view of the front of the ship with all the shops nearby, you have to take a taxi to downtown or a beach or where you want to go, and you can see them all lined up on the Kon Tiki photo above. End of the day - we were hanging out on our balcony when Symphony left - those big ships are really amazing with the maneuverability, she barely backed up, then turned and took off! Look at the waterslides on the back, those look super interesting and new on this ship. We've been on Oasis of the Seas (which at one point was the largest, but is now #4, but not by much!) and I am not sure I'd do it again. A great experience, but you are doing the cruise for the ship and not for the ports - which is fine, but it's a different sort of vacation (like I should be talking, I never get off the friggin ship anyway!!!! Time to get ready for dinner - tonight we are at the Lawn Club!
